Truth in a World of Uncertainty
Pilate retorted. “Your own people and their leading priests brought you to me for trial. Why? What have you done?” Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not an earthly kingdom. If it were, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish leaders. But my Kingdom is not of this world.” Pilate said, “So you are a king?” Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.” “What is truth?” Pilate asked. Then he went out again to the people. - John 18:35b–38

Worldviews aren't just about preference. They're about what's true.
Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!” Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. - John 14:5b–9.
Pt 1: Truth Can be Known
“No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. - John 14:5
Pt 2: Truth Can be Trusted
Four Facts about the Resurrection
1. Jesus really died by crucifixion.
2. His disciples genuinely believed they encountered Him alive afterward.
3. Skeptics became believers after experiences they believed were encounters with the risen Jesus.
4. The tomb was found empty.
Pt 3: Truth Must be Followed
Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.” “What is truth?” Pilate asked. Then he went out again to the people. - John 18:37–38
BOTTOMLINE: IN AN UNCERTAIN WORLD, BUILD YOUR LIFE ON THE TRUTH.
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. - Matthew 7:24
We want to follow up on this week’s message with a few questions that help you respond personally to what God is saying through His Word. Let this be a time of honest evaluation and spiritual reset.
- What voices, experiences, or influences have most shaped what you believe to be true about God, yourself, and the world?
- Jesus doesn’t simply claim to know truth—He says, “I am the truth.” How does that change the way you determine what is true?
- The message presented four facts surrounding the resurrection. How does the historical foundation of the Christian faith strengthen your confidence that Jesus can be trusted?
- Pilate asked, “What is truth?” but then walked away. Where are you tempted to acknowledge what Jesus says without actually allowing His truth to change the way you live?
- Practice: Choose one teaching of Jesus this week that you know but struggle to consistently live out. Write it somewhere visible, read it each morning, and intentionally put it into practice every day for the next seven days. Don’t just study what Jesus says—practice building your life on it.
